Valuing Employees and Giving Back to the Community

Today United States Bakery/Franz Family Bakeries is the largest family-owned independent bakery on the West Coast. The company serves all of Oregon and Washington as well as northern California and parts of Idaho, Montana and Alaska.

According to Bob Albers, Franz takes pride in being a good corporate citizen, contributing a payroll of $200 million in wages into the Northwest annually. He said "We value our employees and offer good wages and excellent benefits." In addition, Franz gives back to the communities it serves as a regular contributor to food banks, shelters and other non-profit groups as well as supporting colleges and universities.

Today, the younger generation of the Franz family, who have the baking business in their pedigree, work for Franz Family Bakeries in a variety of capacities. Joe Franz' Grandson, Mike Hanton who works with Purchasing, said, “I grew up around the business, and like many of my relatives, I am proud to be part of a successful company that values its employees and gives back to the community.”
