Maple Oatmeal Scones

3 1⁄2 cups flour

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 cup Franz Maple Brown Sugar Hot Cereal & Baking Mix

2 tablespoons baking powder

2 tablespoons sugar

2 teaspoons salt

2 cups butter

1⁄2 cup buttermilk

4 eggs

1⁄2 cup maple syrup

Egg Wash

1 egg

1 tablespoon water

Glaze

1 1⁄4 cups confectioners sugar

1⁄2 cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 400°. In a large bowl combine dry ingredients then cut in butter with pastry blender or two knives until the mixture is crumbly. In a separate bowl, mix together buttermilk, maple syrup and eggs then quickly add to the dry ingredients and mix until just blended. On a floured surface, roll the dough out to about 3⁄4 -1 inch thickness. Cut into triangles using a knife and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make an egg wash by whisking together egg and water then brush on top of scones. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, until the tops are crisp. Cool for 5 minutes and then drizzle each scone with a tablespoon of glaze. Glaze: Combine confectioners sugar, maple syrup and vanilla. For garnish, try adding a few oat flakes to the top of each scone before glaze sets.
